Frequently Asked Questions PDF Print E-mail

Q. I need office supplies/office equipment/office furniture.  Can you help me?

A. Brenda Bittner, the Office Assistant, tracks and maintains office supplies for the Center for Independent Living of Central PA (CILCP).  Staff who need office supplies should fill out a Request for Supplies form located at the Front Desk, place it in Brenda's box and Brenda will pull the requested supplies for the staff person within 24 hours. (If the requested supplies are not routinely kept in-house, Brenda will order them and alert the Staff Person when they arrive.)  Larger items, such as computers, office furniture, chairs, etc. are handled by the Director of Office Services, who acts as the CILCP's Purchasing Agent.  After research on pricing, a Purchase Order for the desired item will be prepared by Office Services, proper signatures will be obtained and the order placed.  Staff will be advised of delivery (usually within one week of the request).

Q. I'd like to make a donation.  What are the procedures?

A. The CILCP accepts non cash donations only upon authorization of the Executive Director, the Director of Operations or the Controller.  Therefore, if you approach the Office Assistant, who sits at the Front Desk, about a non cash donation, please know that s/he will have to direct you to the Executive Director, the Operations Director or the Controller or advise you that they will get back to you in the very near future.  This includes non cash items such as a wheelchairs, walkers, computers, furniture, etc. No other staff person at the CILCP is authorized to accept non cash donations except the three named positions.

Monetary donations are also accepted and appreciated.  Donations will be processed according to the CILCP’s Fundraising Policy.

Q. I need to speak with the Scheduler/an IL Specialist/the Executive Director, etc.  Can you please connect me?

A. Brenda Bittner, the Office Assistant, routinely answers all calls coming into the Center for Independent Living of Central PA.  She will listen to your inquiry and will direct your call to the appropriate staff person or to the individual you request.  Steve Hughes, the Office Services Coordinator, is Brenda's back-up.  When Brenda is sick, away on vacation or away from her desk, Steve answers all incoming calls and directs them appropriately.  Operating hours of the CILCP are from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.  Phone lines will be answered by the Front Desk during the hours referenced above with the exception of lunchtime, which is Noon to 1:00 PM, when the phones go into voicemail.  You can reach the CILCP by calling 717-731-1900.

Q. How can I get a reconditioned computer?

A. Requests for recycled/used computers are directed to the Living Well Department.  A Living Well Specialist will do an intake whenever an individual calls in about a recycled computer.  If the individual is already an existing consumer, a brief discussion may be all that's needed to get the person's name on the Computer List.  The list is ordered in a First Come/First Serve basis.  After the needed intake has been completed and the individual is placed on the list, Office Services is notified.  The Office Services Coordinator then determines whether there are any used recycled computers available.  If there are, the Office Services Coordinator gets the computer ready and may also deliver it to the consumer.  If there are no computers, the Office Services Coordinator works with IT Services to obtain a reconditioned computer from them.  Upon receipt, the Office Services Coordinator makes arrangements for delivery.
