CILCP EARNS PA HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION
ADVOCACY AWARD
PHRC recognizes CILCP for "extraordinary leadership,
commitment and dedication to the advancement of civil rights
and equal opportunity."

Timothy Cuevas presents the Pennsylvania Human
Relations Commission's Disability Rights Advocacy
Award to CILCP's Theotis Braddy during the PHRC's
50th Anniversary celebration.

(Camp Hill, Pa.) - The Center for Independent
Living of Central Pennsylvania's (CILCP) Executive Director
Theotis Braddy was presented with the Pennsylvania Human
Relations Commission's (PHRC) Disability Rights Advocacy
Award during the PHRC's 50th Anniversary celebration in
Harrisburg on April 24, 2006.
According to Homer Floyd, PHRC's executive director,
Braddy and CILCP earned the award because of, "extraordinary
leadership, commitment and dedication to the advancement of
civil rights and equal opportunity."
"Theo Braddy and CILCP have done an outstanding job
providing equal opportunity for people with disabilities.
The work CILCP has done has been opening doors throughout
the region," Floyd said.
CILCP is a nonprofit, nonresidential organization serving
people with disabilities, as well as their family members,
community service providers, government agencies and private
businesses. Their mission is to advance the rights of people
with disabilities through the elimination and prevention of
lifestyle barriers.
PHRC celebrated their 50th Anniversary with events in
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg. The commission
presented the Disability Rights Advocacy Award to an
outstanding regional advocate during each of the
celebrations. The award was presented to Braddy and CILCP in
Harrisburg; Bruce McElrath, board chairman of Disability
Rights Advocacy Group, Inc. in Philadelphia; and Lucy
Spruill, director of attendant care for UCP Pittsburgh.
PHRC chose the winners from a long list of disability
rights advocates, both groups and individuals, throughout
the state.
"We are honored to receive this prestigious award from
the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission," Braddy said.
"In it's first 50 years, PHRC has taken enormous strides in
removing barriers for people with disabilities. Without
their help, organizations like the Center for Independent
Living would not have had the same success."
The mission of the Pennsylvania Human Relations
Commission is to administer and enforce the PHRAct and the
PFEOA of the Commonwealth of the Pennsylvania for the
identification and elimination of discrimination and the
providing of equal opportunity for all persons. For more

The Center for Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania
