(Camp
Hill, PA) - In an effort to learn more about the issues
involving people with disabilities in the work place,
Pennsylvania's Secretary of the Department of Labor and
Industry will visit the Center for Independent of Central
Pennsylvania (CILCP) on Thursday, May 6.
This will
be the first visit Secretary Schmerin has made to a Center
for Independent Living. The CILCP strives to empower people
with disabilities to fully participate in all aspects of
society.
"We are
very honored to have Secretary Schmerin visit our
facilities," said CILCP Executive Director Theo Braddy. "At
the same time we are eager to help him better understand the
vocational issues involving Pennsylvanians with
disabilities."
Secretary
Schmerin heads the fifth largest agency of Pennsylvania
state government. He oversees more than 6,000 employees in
200 statewide offices, serving the worker and business
interests of the Commonwealth.
The
Department of Labor and Industry affects the lives of
millions of workers and more than 250,000 employers in
Pennsylvania through its many programs. Schmerin's goal is
to learn more about vocational rehabilitation from the
CILCP. The state's vocational rehabilitation programs
administer funding for state funded centers for independent
living.
The Center
for Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania is a
nonprofit, nonresidential organization established for and
by people with disabilities and serves Cumberland, Dauphin,
Perry, Mifflin and Juniata counties. CILCP's vision is to
empower people with disabilities to fully participate in all
aspects of society. For more information on the CILCP
