(Camp Hill, PA) - The Center for Independent Living of
Central Pennsylvania (CILCP) announced today that Theotis Braddy,
Executive Director, will appear on WGAL News 8 at 6 on Tuesday, May
17, 2005.
The previously filmed segment focuses on the accessibility of the
Pennsylvania Capitol building, especially during an emergency. For
people using a wheelchair, there is only one way to enter and exit
the building. WGAL is going to investigate how safe the Capitol's
emergency evacuation plan is for a person in a wheelchair.
While the Capitol meets all ADA guidelines, like other older
buildings it is still not the easiest for people with disabilities.
"There are some areas of the Capitol that could use accessibility
improvements," Braddy said. "Since it is an older building, these
improvements are somewhat difficult. The Capitol staff has always
been very cooperative when it comes to accessibility and has made a
number of improvements in recent history."
CILCP provides accessibility consultation services to businesses
and organizations throughout Central Pennsylvania. They have worked
with businesses of all sizes, from the Giant Center to local bank
branches.
Braddy was hired in 1988 to establish and administer the CILCP. As
Executive Director, Mr. Braddy has created an independent living
center that has become a strong and growing voice for persons with
disabilities.
Braddy has worked with state government officials in the past.
Governor Edward G. Rendell recently named him to the Governor's
Advisory Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. He was appointed to
serve as a Commissioner for the Pennsylvania Human Relations
Commission in 1998.
At the age of 15 Braddy became a person with a disability
following a high school football accident. He has advocated on behalf
of people with disabilities for more than 25 years.
Braddy has a Masters degree in Social Work from Temple University
and a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Edinboro
University.
The Center for Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania is a
nonprofit, nonresidential organization established for and by people
with disabilities and serves Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry, Mifflin, and
Juniata counties. CILCP's vision is to empower people with
disabilities to fully participate in all aspects of society. For more
