(Harrisburg, Pa.) - For a second consecutive
year, the Center for Independent Living of Central
Pennsylvania (CILCP) is celebrating the anniversary of the
American Disabilities Act (ADA) by hosting the charitable
event, "An Evening with the Peter Mayer Group" at the Sunoco
Performance Theater in the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg,
Pa. on Thursday, July 20, 2006.
The Peter Mayer Group is a nationally known band whose
music is described by Amazon.com as a mix of Dave Matthews,
Paul Simon and Sting. This year the band Tropical Soul,
Central PA's premier Trop-Rock band will open the event at
7:00 p.m. and the Peter Mayer Group will follow from 8:00 -
10:00 p.m. The proceeds of the concert will help build
Central Pennsylvania's first fully accessible housing
complex.
Accessible housing is a barrier that is a major concern
of many Central Pennsylvanians who are disabled. With this
in mind, CILCP formed a partnership with other organizations
to apply for a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development (HUD)'s Section 811 program. Earlier this
year, the grant was awarded by HUD, allowing 12 fully
accessible homes in Swatara Township to be built for people
with disabilities. The complex, which will be built on Mohn
Street in Steelton, is the first fully accessible
development in Central Pennsylvania.
"We are so thankful to have received the grant from HUD,
allowing CILCP along with other supporters and advocates to
provide affordable, accessible housing to people with
disabilities. The concert is also another way to generate
funding for this project, while providing the audience with
an enjoyable evening of music performed by a gifted group of
musicians," Lynn Stewart, LHOT Coordinator of CILCP, said.
Peter Mayer is a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter who
has been playing with the well-known singer Jimmy Buffett
for more than18 years. While continuing to play with Jimmy
Buffett's Coral Reefer Band as the lead guitarist, he has
also become the lead vocalist of his own band, the Peter
Mayer Group. Joining him on tour are two other members of
the Coral Reefer band, his brother and electric and acoustic
bass player, Jim Mayer, and drummer, Roger Guth, both of
whom have cowritten with Jimmy Buffett. The other band
members include the multi-instrumentalist, R. Scott Bryan,
who has shared the stage with artists such as Sheryl Crow,
Sting and the Rolling Stones; and a piano player, Chris
Walters, former musical director for Barbara Mandrell, who
has shared the stage with country group Alabama.
Tropical Soul hails from the Lancaster area, where they
perform at more than 75 events per year. Consisting of
Dennis McCaughey on rhythm guitar and vocals, Randy
Zimmerman on lead guitar and vocals and Jere Groft on
percussion, they released the band's second CD, "No Plans at
All" in November 2004. In November 2001, they opened for
Jimmy Buffett in Key West, Florida, as part of that year's
Meeting of the Minds - a National Convention for ParrotHeads
in Paradise.
Tickets range from $25.00 to $35.00. A meet and greet
session with the band will follow the performance. Starbucks
will provide coffee and dessert, which is included in the
ticket price.

charitable event by becoming a platinum, gold, silver or
