PA DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES COUNCIL TO FUND A STATEWIDE ADVOCACY CONSULTATION PROJECT

Theotis Braddy

"We will also involve many other experts within the community to ensure success of this exciting new project," Braddy said.

(Camp Hill, PA) - The Center for Independent Living of Central PA (CILCP) recently received a two-year, $220,000 grant to implement a new statewide advocacy consultation project. This project, funded by the PA Developmental Disabilities Council (PADDC), will be housed under the new Independent Living Consultant Services division of CILCP, which became available to the community on July 1, 2004.

Independent Living Consultant Services will have a statewide focus to support and enhance the efforts of local advocacy groups throughout the Commonwealth by providing consultation and technical assistance, information, resource provision and networking. A major objective of this project is to involve numerous people with disabilities in working toward system change, capacity building and advocacy.

The Independent Living Consultant Services' primary team will consist of Theotis W. Braddy, CILCP Executive Director; Janetta Green, CILCP's Director of Operations; Ginny Rogers, Director of PA Transportation Alliance; and Lynn Stewart, Director of Dauphin County Local Housing Option Team.

"This primary team of experts brings more than 80 years of experience working with non-profit organizations including organizing and developing coalitions," Theotis Braddy, CILCP's executive director, said. "We will also involve many other experts within the community to ensure success of this exciting new project," he added.

The Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council is made up of people with disabilities and their families, advocates and state department representatives who work to create favorable conditions for people with developmental disabilities and their families in the Commonwealth. Created under a federal act and a Governor's Executive Order, the Council is both a planning group and a funding body.

Grassroots advocacy groups or coalitions interested in assistance can call the CILCP at (717) 731-1900 or 1-800-3232-6060 (V/TTY). Requests for technical assistance can be made by visiting the CILCP's web site at www.cilcp.org. The Center for Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania is a nonprofit, nonresidential organization established for and by people with disabilities and serves Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry, Mifflin and Juniata counties.
