(Harrisburg, PA) - The Center for Independent
Living of Central Pennsylvania recently appointed four new
members, Lynette Forman, Charles Kern, Edwin L. Owen and
David E. Simonic, to the Board of Directors.
CILCP, a nonprofit, nonresidential organization
established to advance the rights of people with
disabilities through the elimination and prevention of
barriers experienced by people with disabilities, actively
seeks Board members who believe in the philosophy, mission,
goals, and objectives of the organization.
"Our board members are residents of the Central
Pennsylvania community who share the same ideals as the
CILCP," Theotis Braddy, executive director of the CILCP,
said. "They are concerned citizens who strive to make a
difference for people with disabilities."
According to Braddy, board members are required to attend
and participate in Board of Directors' meetings, join at
least one Board committee, and participate in fund-raising
activities. To become a Board member, candidates must
possess knowledge or skills needed by the Board or the CILCP
and be willing to commit at least eight hours per month to
the organization. Board members must also understand the
programs and services, as well as, the philosophy, mission,
goals, and objectives of CILCP.
Lynette Forman is a former nursing home resident and now
lives independently in Steelton. She has volunteered for
CILCP in the past and she says joining the Board is a way to
continue to make a difference in her community.
Charles Kern, CPA, joins the Board as a financial expert.
He has previous experience with nonprofit organizations and
believes that CILCP is an organization that can make a
positive impact throughout Central PA.
Edwin L. Owen, the owner of Help-U-Sell Real Estate in
Camp Hill, has been involved with various CILCP fundraising
events in the past. "When I was invited to join the Board I
thought that it would be an excellent opportunity to help
others," he said.
David Simonic, a mortgage broker with Premier Funding,
Inc., has a child with a disability and feels a close
connection to CILCP. "CILCP is a meaningful organization
that provides excellent services to the community," he said.
In addition to the new appointees, the CILCP Board of
Directors consists of the following members: Tucker Hill,
President; David Reager, Vice President; Michael Weldon,
Treasurer; Linda Langely, Secretary; Ed Junkin; Michael
Brown, Esq.; Joanna Raver; George Carlson; and Mark Edwards.
The Center for Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania
is a nonprofit, nonresidential organization established for
and by people with disabilities and serves Cumberland,
