(Camp
Hill, PA) - As part of the Pennsylvania Planning
Association 2004 Annual Conference, the Center for
Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania (CILCP) will
conduct a tour of Harrisburg on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 to
present appropriate accessibility standards and point out
situations that are not truly accessible to people with
disabilities.
"We are encouraged that Harrisburg officials are taking
the necessary steps to promote accessibility throughout the
city," said Theotis Braddy, executive director for the
CILCP. "Together we can help make the capital city
accessible, comfortable and accommodating for all
Pennsylvanians."
CILCP, a nonprofit organization established to advance
the rights of people with disabilities through the
elimination and prevention of barriers, has helped numerous
businesses and organizations address accessibility issues.
The organization's Independent Living Consultant Services
support and enhance the efforts of local advocacy groups
throughout the Commonwealth by providing consultation and
technical assistance, information, resource provision and
networking. A major objective of this project is to involve
numerous people with disabilities in working toward system
change, capacity building and advocacy.
Recently, CILCP advised GIANT Center staff on issues such
as parking, seating options for people with disabilities and
their guests, and provided sensitivity training for the
staff. Businesses can contact John Tassone for more
information regarding the organization's Independent Living
Consultant Services.
The Pennsylvania Planning Association (PPA) is a chapter
of the American Planning Association (APA). PPA is a
nonprofit, nonpartisan organization for professional
planners and planning officials, as well as other
organizations and individuals interested in planning. With
about 1,300 members, PPA promotes planning at all levels of
the Commonwealth through workshops, meetings, an annual
conference, legislative monitoring, and public awareness
efforts.
The Center for Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania
