(Camp Hill, PA) - Accessible Communities Today
(ACT) of Carlisle, the Center for Independent Living of
Central Pennsylvania's (CILCP) grassroots advocacy group
that helps businesses in that area comply to Americans with
Disabilities Act regulations, recently presented a
Certificate of Recognition to the Sadler Health Center at
100 North Hanover Street in Carlisle on November 29, 2004 at
2 p.m. ACT recognized the health center for recently
improved access to the facility's main entrance. Sadler's
staff is also working on ways to create greater
maneuverability to access the building's sidewalk ramp and
entrance.
It is ACT's goal to assist businesses and show
surrounding communities how important it is to meet ADA
regulations. "We want to recognize the efforts of
organizations like the Sadler Health Center Corporation,"
Pam Auer, CILCP's community organizer said. "They have
proven that they are concerned about the health and well
being of the Carlisle Community."
According to Mrs. Auer, ACT will be recognizing more
businesses throughout the mid-state for improving building
accessibility. Because of the scope of the health center's
services, the improvements will be important to both
residents and people who work in the area.
"The Sadler Health Center provides a wide variety of
healthcare services needed by people with disabilities. By
improving accessibility they have ensured that all patients
can access their services," Auer said.
The Sadler Health Center provides comprehensive primary
medical care, dental care and mental health services.
Established in the early 1980's, the health center evolved
as part of the charitable mission of the Carlisle Hospital
and Health Services. The Sadler Health Center Corporation,
which now owns and operates the center, was officially
incorporated on October 25, 2002 and commenced operations in
June 19, 2003. During the first six months in 2003, the
health center served 1,855 patient visits with medical care
and 1,319 patient visits with dental care.
"Our staff members are very pleased to be able to
accommodate this need and offer more convenience for Sadler
patients with disabilities," Puspa Das, Executive Director
for the Sadler Center, said.
