(Camp Hill, Pa.) - The Center for Independent
Living of Central Pennsylvania (CILCP), a nonprofit,
nonresidential organization established to advance the
rights of people with disabilities through the elimination
and prevention of barriers, announces the appointment of
Michael A. Auer as the organization's controller.
Prior to his promotion, Auer served as the executive
assistant for CILCP where he provided administrative support
to the organization's executives in a variety of capacities
including event planning and managing special projects. He
worked with administrative personnel to accomplish
organizational goals.
"Michael has been a valuable asset to the Center for
Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania," Theotis Braddy,
CILCP's executive director, said. "As controller, he will be
able to utilize his experience, leadership, and his
financial expertise to help our organization grow."
As controller, Auer will manage the development and
implementation of the finance department, which includes the
CILCP Payroll Service Project. Other duties include
assessing, analyzing and providing information about all
company activities to assist the executive director, the
board of directors, management and other staff members in
making educated economic decisions about the CILCP's future.
Auer is not only a CILCP employee; he is a user of
CILCP's personal assistance services (PAS). PAS helps
consumers remain independent by providing them with a
personal assistant who assists with daily tasks.
"Being a user of personal assistance services as well as
serving as controller is a perfect fit into the Center for
Independent Living of Central PA philosophy of an
organization staffed by people with disabilities working for
people with disabilities," Auer said. "I know first-hand how
critical the PAS component is to people with disabilities
accessing freedom over their life and controlling their life
in a dignified manner and as they see fit."
Auer, who has worked in the independent living industry
since 1992, brings valuable experience to CILCP. He started
as the satellite program manager and bookkeeper for
Community Resources for Independence before becoming
executive director for Life and Independence for Today. Auer
began his career with the Center for Independent Living as
comptroller for Southwestern Pa. and then as executive
director for the Pennsylvania Council on Independent Living
(PCIL) from 2000 to 2005. As executive director of PCIL,
Auer acted as a spokesperson for and provided technical
assistance to a statewide association of 15 centers for
independent living.
A Swatara resident, Auer graduated from the Pennsylvania
State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree
in accounting. In his free time, he is a family man who is
very involved with his church and enjoys landscaping.
The Center for Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania
is a nonprofit, nonresidential organization established for
and by people with disabilities and serves Cumberland,
Dauphin, Perry, Mifflin and Juniata counties. CILCP's vision
is to empower people with disabilities to fully participate
in all aspects of society. For more information on the CILCP
