The Pennsylvania Transportation Alliance, a project funded by the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council and administered by the Center for Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania (CILCP) has been awarded a 0,000.00 grant contract with the Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD). This grant entitled, "Rural Transportation Initiative for People with Disabilities" has been approved for funding under the Administration on Developmental Disabilities' Project of National Significance program. The main objective of this project will be to provide technical assistance to states with rural areas including Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. The PA Transportation Alliance will provide technical assistance to network and establish partnerships between advocacy organizations, grassroots organizers, consumer/parent groups, and others interested in improving rural transportation for people with disabilities in each rural state. The project will include training for the purpose of developing grassroots coalitions similar to those here in Pennsylvania such as the PA Transportation Alliance, Disability Budget Coalition and the recruitment of Volunteer Transportation Organizers in each state, to work in a concerted, organized effort about the direction of transportation advocacy on a statewide level. Clearly, Pennsylvania is making major steps in the area of increased affordable, accessible transportation for people with disabilities and other states are very interested in what we are doing.
