The CILCP was selected to participate in a National Demonstration Project to provide transportation vouchers for people with disabilities. The Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living (APRIL) has received a five-year grant from the Federal Rehabilitation Services Administration to demonstrate an employment-related voucher model for accessible rural transportation in ten communities, we are in the final and fifth year. We are one of the ten communities selected as a demonstration site to provide transportation vouchers, known as Traveler's Cheques. The CILCP has a limited amount of money to offer people with disabilities, living in a rural area and needing transportation to and from work and having access to a volunteer driver. The program will let the recipient write a check for mileage to the volunteer driver at a rate per mile. The person must have never used the Voucher program in the past.
